National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners is open to all health care professionals, front line staff, Correctional Personnel and First Responders who qualify for certification and are interested in learning comprehensive dementia education, who value dementia certification and who are committed to ending abuse and neglect of our most vulnerable elders.

The Council was formed to promote global standards of excellence in dementia and Alzheimer's Disease education to professionals (who support the health care industry), caregivers, front line staff, First Responders and correctional personnel who provide services to dementia clients.

As the number of dementia cases continues to increase nationally and worldwide, there is a great necessity to ensure that caregivers, staff (and those supporting the health care industry), correctional facilities and first responder entities are well trained to provide appropriate, competent, and sensitive direct care and support for the dementia patients.

The National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, LLC was formed in 2001 by a group of professionals with varying work and personal experiences in the field of dementia care. Their backgrounds include Nurses, Regional Managers, Nursing Assistants, Consultants, Geriatric Care Managers, Psychiatry, Dementia Unit Managers, Alzheimer's Disease and related Dementia Care Specialist, Alzheimer's Disease Educators, Dementia Educators, Activity Professionals, Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Licensed / Certified Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists, Dietitians, Pharmacists, Alzheimer's Disease Care Specialist, Long Term Care Administration, Support Group Leaders, Administrators, Owners, Elder Law Attorney's and Home Care Administration.

These talented and experienced individuals cover the broad spectrum of the health care industry and bring valuable life and professional experiences from Adult Day Care Centers, Assisted Living Facilities, Nursing Homes, Hospice Agencies, Management Companies, Home Care Agencies, Independent Living Facilities, Life Plan Communities, Independent Living Communities, Retirement Living, Senior Apartments, Senior Centers, Hospitals, learning institutions, state agencies professional boards and nonprofit associations such as the Alzheimer's Association.

Across the United States of America, the regulations are different from state to state for Alzheimer's Disease Units, Dementia Units, Memory Centers and Special Care Units. Some have extensive regulations for Nursing Homes and Assisted Living regarding dementia education while other states may have sparse regulations. State regulations for dementia education governing Adult Day Care, Home Care Agencies, Psychiatric facilities, Rehabilitation centers, Correctional facilities, First responder agencies, hospitals and hospice agencies are also different in each state. Some states have no requirements, some are vague, others require just two hours of education while others are extensive. The Goal of the NCCDP is to promote national standards for comprehensive and extensive Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Education.

Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care curriculum. The ADDC seminar is taught live and in person. This is an 8 hour curriculum but can be adapted to fit every state requirement. A student handout notebook is provided by the certified CADDCT trainer. If there is not a ADDC seminar listed on the seminar calendar in your state you can elect to hire a certified CADDCT trainer to come to your organization or the ADDC seminar is also presented live and online. The ADDC seminar is the required seminar for those pursuing CDP certification and who qualify for the CDP certification or you just want comprehensive dementia education. The ADDC seminar is approved for 7 ceus in most states. CMS recognizes the ADDC curriculum and lists NCCDP on the CMS Crosswalk page.
